Abstract
This study was conducted to find out the mode of contamination of vegetables by hookworm larvae in soil. The materials of infective hookworm larvae were obtained by culturing the stool of a patient who infected with Ancylostoma duodenale alone. The nature of the soil used in this study was sand soil or silt loam. The vegetable used in this study was celery cabbages. The larvae in the soil were detected by using Baermann¢¥s apparatus. The results of this study were as follows:
1) The active migration of infective larvae of Ancylostoma duodenale occurred easily in the soil under the conditions of proper moisture and temperature.
2) The contamination of leaf or root of vegetable growing on soil was occurred by the active migration and climbing activity of the larvae in soil. Such contamination was occurred more intensively when the surface of vegetable was damped. Some larvae which were contaminated once on the leaf of vegetable were climbing down back into soil when the surface became gradually drying. But others remained to the site and survived for some duration.
